Conscience+
I’m pleased to announce that I have a new app available at the App Store called Conscience+.
Conscience+ helps you reason through moral dilemmas by providing you with little “shoulder angels” that can help you argue either side of a decision. Simply flip the switch at the top of the app to move between good conscience and bad conscience. Whether you need the extra push to go through with a selfish deed or words of wisdom to resist a bad temptation, Conscience+ has you covered.
- turning away the dessert menu
- splurging on a new electronic gadget
- staying faithful to your romantic partner
- padding your expense report on your boss’s dime
- lying on your college application
- and much, much more!
Get Conscience+ free from the App Store here! Once you’ve played with the app yourself, let us know in the comments if you have any suggested excuses. If we like them, we’ll put them in the next update.

The Honest Truth About Dishonesty: How We Lie to Everyone - Especially Ourselves

Want one for the Google Play store also
When is the android app out?
+1 for android
Guys, it’s exactly what this app is for. Purchasing Android was an impulsive mistake.
Yes!
Really? An impulsive mistake? I, as many others before me, can point out many reasons we went with the choice we did. Perhaps Dan needs to run a study to understand the consumers of smart phones?
I like how you can read the name as Con Science.
It would be a cool feature if you just flipped the phone and it changed from good to bad or vice versa.
Looking forward to ignoring this at the most inopportune times.
it sounds interesting. are there any plans to introduce this to the android/google market?
… and what a perfect way to ‘opt-in’ for research study/data
…. Well played, Dan… Well played!
We will try to do an android version ….
A BlackBerry app would be nice too
It’s already helped me to not buy an app I didn’t really need…
+1 for the android market , so we can give u the feedback
Hello Dan,
would port this application to Android for free! I am starting freelancing after 2 years of Android programming in university, so it would be a great reference for me. Could do it in a week.
Let me know if you are interested!

Best luck
Superb! Now 911 shopping! Congrats
Using apps for counting calories has been the best ever way to lose those extra pounds- not spending on unnecessary calories . So I am curious to see if the same principle works here…perhaps add a bad/good decision tracker..with points earned or deducted eash day
Dan, if you can, can you collect stats to track “what side” people look at most?
I would love to see the difference between Apple and Android users…. as Ermik points out…
Of course I want a Symbian version…
For QuantifiedSelf purposes having a track of how often you read through “turning away the dessert menu”. Maybe let it write into a .csv file?
It would also be interesting to know what data the App sends to the server
Is there any version for windows phone?
I have not seen yet, but in the App store the Good Conscience side might benefit with a calming background color … May I suggest Duke Blue?
There was a point in time when it was considered unethical to use people for testing. I’m curious to know what type of results are expected from this round of experimentation. Just how far will someone bend based on the task they are supposed to be doing? It seems to be a continuation of your recent book involving lying.
Still pretty clever, I would include a feature that reminds users to input data, and during that reminder they can still use the “good” vs “bad” feature. It will help with the statistical analysis.
You had me at point 1.
YAY! for android app.
Love the new book Dan!
It’s a great idea and a very usefull app! I think it could use a more beatifull design, though!
Also it would be great if users can upload advices on specific mathers or situations.
This is Bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the boaby
Sorry about that, people messing around and I don’t know how to delete this
Hello.
Sounds good. Another vote for Android. Please.
It’s cool that bythehighway is offering. Good for you.
I think I am missing something here. What exactly is the purpose of the app? I found it amusing for about a minute but in any of the situations included, all those excuses (+ & -) already run through my mind so I don’t need the app for them. I feel like I am missing something.
Ooo… love your stuff but really there is no such thing as good and bad – subjective and just polarities… yes, really!
xx

Really excited to read the news about the Android . I’m also looking forward to buying your book – saw you on the Dylan Ratigan show today. Great job, fascinating stuff. Public policy implications=huge.
