A self test for the swine flu
A few people have been asking me if there is a good way to self diagnose the swine flu.
Luckily there is a highly accurate test (with accuracy above 99.9%).
Step 1: ask yourself: do I have the swine flu?
Step 2: scroll to the bottom of this screen
Congratulations! You don’t have the swine flu

The Upside of Irrationality, explores some positive and some negative ways that irrationality plays out in our lives.

What’s the false-negative rate on this test? =P
Drunk driving seems to occur from the same arousal syndrome as unintended sex. We need to devise a quick self-test to allow people leaving the bar to self-regulate.
I think the diagnostic test for zoonotic influenza is a little more complicated, but this is probably a good frontline test for the masses.
@Jesse:
Assuming that the number of cases doubles next week (so we get about 2200 new cases – which is likely to be over the actual number), and given a U.S. population of about 304 million, the false negative rate is about .0000072.
I know I don’t have it but would you chance it?
The cop that pulled me for a broken tail light let me off within a nanosecond after me telling him that I had just got back from Mexico.. and I didn’t even have to do the sneeze scene.
Phew! I was so worried! What a relief!
I am currently recovering from the flu, and hoping it was the H1N1, for immunity during the second wave (See the 1918 Pandemic). So how can this “test” be sure? Of course, it can’t, folks!
The test does show yet again how desperate some are to appear clever, although I admit it did make me smile.
I think the ideal of having simple self-diagnose tool similar to urinetest stick…is great. Because, I think many people do not want to go to medical center to have scientific test before they are afraid of losing time in transportation, standing in a line, filling the form….I myself many time postpone those kind of medical test because of laziness!
what are your chances of death due to car crash on any given trip? what is the difference if you are wearing a seatbelt? what would happen to the death rate if we forced all drivers and to wear a seatbelt and a helmet? maybe all pedestrians should wear helmets as well. how do laws based on changing behavior on a massive scale get support when the chance of the negative event happening is remote?
my likelihood of not winning the lottery is 99.999993%….
just because an event is unlikely it doesn’t mean it won’t influence behavior tremendously and in some cases the end justifies the means or inconvenience it causes or so we as society have decided.
It’s a foregone conclusion. xo
I have the flu, wear no crash helmet, no seatbelt and *never* play the lottery.
Would you date me? I’ll drive..
oinc!
pretty funny!!!
piggies are cute, they should be left alone.
swine flu is really not very deadly at all, there are just mass panic..:
swine flu scared the hell out of me when there was mass infection of this virus-”*
Swine Flue created a lot of mass panic during the height of its infection*”*
