I enjoyed your book. Regarding the experiment granting Amazon gift certificates (pg. 58)- I like to read and am sure I could find many books that interest me at Amazon. People who read very little, or not at all, would logically choose a free $10 gift certificate, rather than the $20 for which they had to pay $7, because they know they will likely never use it. Their aversion to loss leads them to the free option, because they will be out nothing when they don’t us it.
Thanks for an engaging and inspiring conversation. It’s clear that while several of books have been written in the behavioral economics arena, there’s still a lot of unanswered questions. I’ve gained from your knowledge that almost every aspect of our lives is impacted by this issue of irrationality, yet I often wonder why we let it happen and how we might spot it before it impacts major decisions?
